Sick Stories & Blue Sky Learning Q+A on June 1, 2024
Blessing us with their poems and stories are: Jody Chan, K Zimmer, Isabella Iannetta, and Gemma Files.
Each reader will stick around for a little Q&A after their set.
Sick Stories founder Sophie will also be speaking with Dana from Blue Sky Learning about the importance of disability and neurodivergence representation and pride, particularly in entrepreneurship.
Readings will begin around 6pm. We welcome you to arrive for 5:30 to browse merch, buy raffle tickets and choose which prizes you want a chance to win, and ease into the space with some writing activities.
THANK YOU to everyone who came along or supported from afar the Sick Stories Community Evening this past weekend! The Pink Studio was the inclusive venue of our dreams and we’re super grateful to Natalie for helping us make this event an accessible reality.
We are especially grateful to our readers: K Zimmer, Isabella Iannetta (who also helped behind-the-scenes of the event) Gemma Files, and Dana Daniels from Blue Sky Learning, who also brought along fidgets for audience members to use during the readings.
We’d also love to thank Kit for all their help, and our raffle sponsors, Another Story Bookshop @anotherstorybookshop, Bampot House of Tea @bampothouse, Blue Sky Learning @blueskylearningto, Buddies In Bad Times Theatre @buddiesto, Come As You Are @comeasyouareco, Firefly Creative Writing @fireflycreativewriting, LES Studio @lesstudio.to, and N.E. McMorran @spondyluxpress @nemcmorran
Lastly but certainly not least, thank you to Safe Air Collective who handled all the logistics of getting their Blast Mini MK II to and from the space to ensure all our guests were at maximum protection in the indoor venue. They’re doing really amazing community work, check them out if you haven’t already!
The evening was a chance to bring community together to celebrate local Disabled writers, raise funds to publish more writers (and eventually a literary magazine!) and a chance to say hey, look how brilliant and vibrant our voices are!!
Stay tuned for more workshops, readings, events, and the opening of our online store!

ADHD Career Change Podcast with Sandra Iseman - Dec 2023
Episode Description
Sandra Iseman always felt like she didn’t belong. Realizing in her thirties that she had dyslexia and being diagnosed as an adult with ADHD she realized she wasn’t the problem, she was just not like everyone else and so many things started to click. Sandra spent 30 years working in IT until she decided that the pain in the job was not worth it. As someone who was in a constant search for something novel and exciting, she decided to do the thing she always knew in her heart was her calling. She left her career to go back to school and become a psychotherapist. I sit down with Sandra to talk about this massive career change, going back to school during a pandemic, unmasking, and growing through introspection.
, a licensed psychotherapist based in Ontario, Canada, works with neurodivergent clients providing both individual and couples counseling. Her thriving practice is less than a year old however she brings a wealth of experience from 30 years in a diverse multinational corporate consulting career. Her journey spans engineering, finance and technology and has also incorporated entrepreneurship, education, and advocacy.
In pursuit of a passion for psychology, Sandra intentionally shifted gears, leaving behind her successful consultancy career to train in counseling psychology. Now, with a unique blend of professional maturity and fresh enthusiasm, she offers support and advocacy for neurodivergent individuals who are struggling to fit into traditional corporate and societal structures that weren’t designed with them in mind. Following her own diagnosis with ADHD, Sandra draws from her lived experiences to bring a positive, strengths-based approach to her work.
Sandra is an avid cyclist, kayaker, and explorer who finds her happy place seeking adventure all over the world with her husband and their daughter.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder or impairment in regulating attention. It affects the parts of the brain that help us plan, focus on, and execute tasks. In Canada, 4 to 6 percent of adults and 5 to 7 percent of children have been diagnosed with ADHD—that’s roughly one out of every 21 people across the country.
