Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is therapy?
Therapy is the process in which an individual seeking mental health support regularly meets with a trained mental health professional to work on shared therapeutic goals. This therapeutic process fosters a therapeutic alliance, which is a professional relationship aimed at addressing the personal, social, or psychological goals faced by the client. During therapy, the mental health professional utilizes various therapeutic techniques to help you identify your strengths, enabling you to leverage them as you work toward your goals. The process also focuses on addressing challenges and identifying effective coping mechanisms.

4. How often should I attend sessions?

This frequency helps establish a strong therapeutic alliance and ensures consistent support as you work toward your goals. The first session with a therapist or coach is sometimes called the initial therapy or coaching consultation.
The first session with a therapist serves as a basic conversation between you and your potential therapist. While it doesn't usually dive into deep traumas, it is an opportunity for both parties to learn if you are the right fit to work together. This session aims to establish a strong therapeutic or coaching alliance—a relationship based on mutual respect, safety, and trust. At the end of the consultation, you should have clarity on your most pressing questions and whether the therapist or coach feels like the right fit for you.
11. What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

While both coaches and therapists are trained professionals in their field, their approaches differ:

-
Coaching focuses on practical strategies and skills to manage ADHD traits, emphasizing goal setting and task management.
-
Therapy addresses underlying mental health conditions and provides therapeutic interventions, using various treatment modalities.
If you seek strategies for specific life challenges, an coach may be preferable. If you require support for co-occurring mental health issues, then a therapist might be the right choice for you.
